What I Wore- coloured tights

Dress: H&M
Tights, shoes & sunglasses: Primark

I meant to wear a belt with this outfit to break up the blue and help define my waist, but as usual, I was running late for work and so forgot, so it's not quite the sartorial elegance I was hoping for, but oh well :) It was the first time I'd worn this shade of blue tights before, but they were fun - it felt like a more accessible version of wearing white tights (something I feel very silly doing, despite my love of tights) because they were so pale. I should really stop wearing this dress to work, pretty sure it's too short to be decent, but it is super cute, no? Do you think it's OK to push the boundaries of what's acceptable work-wear occasionally? I think it makes life a bit more fun if you don't always play by the rules... :)

Weekend Wishlist - home furnishing

(Hemnes, Extorp, Helmer and Expedit, all from Ikea)

Hubby and I had a little jolly over to Manchester yesterday so I could get my first chickenpox vaccination and do a spot of shopping. I tweeted a picture of the new boots that I bought earlier, currently wearing them around the house to try and break them in ready for winter (expect to see a lot more of them as the weather turns nasty), but we also 'popped into' Ikea on the way home - well, that was the plan anyway, we ended up staying for hours and hours and missing Doctor Who - oops! We picked up a new chest of drawers and some bedside tables from the Hemnes range (like the chest above), some new shelving units and other such exciting things as a compost bin, a mirror and a blanket :) The above wishlist is what we're going to order for home delivery when we get a bit more money saved up to complete our living room and bedroom furnishings (finally, only a year and a half after we moved in!). I can't wait to share pictures when it's all finished next month.

The rest of today will be spent putting together furniture, catching up with Doctor Who and getting ready for X Factor later - is anyone else super disappointed with the quality this year? Very few standing out me at the moment, but then I never really liked the audition process. Judge's houses is where it starts to get good, and I am SO excited to bring back the live show score cards (all will be explained when they start in a few weeks time). Happy Sunday y'all.

Holidays

Hubs and I have been off jet-setting around the globe (well, you know, spending a few days in Whitby...) - we actually got back on Saturday but I've had such a rotten cold I've not felt up to doing much at all - boo! Colds suck!

The good news is that I'm almost totally better now, and I feel up to sharing a few snaps from our time away. My dad rented the same house that we stayed at before our wedding last year (where the second picture in this post was taken), so we stayed there for a few days, but since it is almost our 1 year anniversary, we also stayed a night at the B&B we spent our wedding night on - a really incredible place called The Woodlands in Sandsend, just up the coast). We stayed in the Louis room last year, which had a bathroom even bigger than the bedroom, with a really epic freestanding bath, but decided to go for Finley this time, which was, if possible, even nicer. I can definitely see it becoming a 'thing' for us to return there - I hope so anyway! It's insanely peaceful and beautiful there, right on the doorstep of the ocean. My idea of heaven basically.

We also spent a LOT of time cuddling baby Sebastian. He's a month old now and so frigging gorgeous.

But mostly I just made eyes at my boy.
Can you blame me?

It was a pretty good little trip, all in all.

P.S ....

I went shopping and I bought...

(did you ever play that game as a kid? I loved it!)

So as much as I love to treat myself to new clothes and beauty products, I'm a huge, huge bookworm, and recently got a little carried away in a second-hand bookshop in Edinburgh...

I've read the Mitch Albom one before, but none of the others. Have you? What did you think of them?
Too Far was given to us free at the literature festival in Edinburgh, don't know anything about it or the author but I'd never turn down a free book :)

I also treated myself to some new nail polish since they were on offer in Boots - in dreamy Raspberry & Peach Melba, and this cute ring from H&M.

And these just arrived in the post this morning...

So excited to finally own Toast on DVD. It's the dramatisation of Nigel Slater's autobiography, a book I really love, featuring Helena Bonham-Carter and Freddie Highmore, and I absolutely love it. The Saturday's album is in honour of having just bought tickets to go and see them live in Manchester in December. Really loving their new stuff (I mean, they're not Girls Aloud, but then who is?)

And finally, the biggest new purchase of them all... our new car!

She's a beauty, right?

August was a great month for new things, so that means September is going to have to be super frugal :( Having no money kind of sucks... A lot.

Running errands

I found this old dress of mine when I went home for the weekend recently and I wore it to run some errands in town. I can't remember where I got it from but it's weird to think that I would still wear something I wore when I was 17, or even that this was the kind of thing I wore when I was 17... I just finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha, and have plunged head first back into my love affair with all things Japanese, so the kimono sleeves really appealed to me (they flare out at the ends).

Sorry for being quiet this week, we've been super busy buying a car (she's a beauty!) and then we're off for a mini break to Whitby next week to celebrate our anniversary a little early. I'll try and get some posts scheduled before then though, but sorry if I don't!

What I wore- first day of school

 Shirt & Pinafore: Topshop
Mac: H&M
Bag: Accessorize

My new dress arrived yesterday and it's pretty amazing :) Fairly casual and I've yet to experiment with it to work out it's full potential. This outfit is a little 'farm-chic' - one of those days where I think I toe the line between looking silly and looking awesome, but I'm ok with that. I like to look silly occasionally, taking fashion too seriously is boring. One of my kids at school actually said I looked like I should be on a farm, to which I would have replied, "Well, yeah, that's kind of the point", except I didn't think that at 7 she would really have understood...

What do you think, silly or awesome? (I won't be offended, promise)

Seriously windy and rainy out today, hence the mac, but you know what? I kind of love it. I arrived at school and was asked if I'd been on holiday because I was 'glowing'. Who needs blusher when you've got windy autumnal days to give you a rosy glow? You can't buy that kind of look. So there I was, getting rained on and blown all over the place, grinning like a loon, because this is my perfect weather, as crazy as that sounds. I'm in my element.

So excited for the next few months!

P.S oh and we think we've found a car! Hubs is going to look at it tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for us please!

What I wore: Edinburgh special

Day one:
Dress: vintage, Asos marketplace
Cardigan & Sunglasses: Primark
Shoes: Kickers
Bag: Belle & Sebastian merchandise

Day two:
Dress: H&M
Cardigan: New look
Socks: Asos
Shoes: UO

Day 3:
Dress: Anthropologie
Cardigan & shoes as before

I picked up the last dress in Edinburgh, in the sale I hasten to add. I'm officially head over heels for Anthropologie, but not for the price tags! I could have bought a hundred things in there, if only I could afford them. Socks were a must for all the walking we did, even if they made my outfits look a little silly :)

Weekend Wishlist: the automotive special

This weekend I have mostly been lazing around in my pjs all day (I know, I'm a slob, I'm ok with that), reading books (I just finished Petite Anglaise and was fairly bored by it) and browsing the internet whilst Hubby does all the hard work like painting our hall and mowing the lawn. He's a gem, I know. Although he did managed to stand in the paint, yet again, so don't go thinking he's perfect. Almost perfect maybe :)

My weekend wishlist looks a little different from normal...

(images from autotrader)

Hubby and I are in the midst of trying to buy our very first car and it is proving to be a complete nightmare! Every car we like either gets sold immediately or has astronomical insurance costs. Keep your fingers crossed for us finding something good and affordable soon :)

Autumn Days

(image via Pinterest)

Yesterday's post was supposed to be all about my autumn wishlist - big chunky knits and pumpkin and mustard hues. I had this whole bit lined up, but then I saw that dress and it all kind of went out the window... Sorry! It was a beauty though right? I may or may not have let out a little squeal earlier when I got the email saying it had been dispatched... Ok, I did. I have a feeling it's going to be featured VERY heavily on this here blog, and possibly worn to death, but I'm ok with that. Do you have a dress like that? That one piece that just completes your wardrobe? I will soon! Hopefully just in time for my first day back at school (work)!

So it's September. Fall as the glamorous Americans says (although I think our word is better, sorry). Autumnal is one of my very favourite words because of all the images it automatically inspires in my mind. Crunchy leaves, rosy cheeks glowing from the cold, long colourful scarves, pumpkins, finally getting to dig out my epic coloured tights collection (plain black opaques are NOT welcome Chez Moi). I'm all about the wine, the mustard, the teal, even the neon pink on occasions.

Autumn is my very favourite and my best season. It's no coincidence we got married on October 1st - it should have been the most perfect of days, weather wise, but no, it rained. And when I say rained I mean, rain of biblical flood proportions. It did make for some good photos featuring umbrellas though.

Like I said, Autumn days are the best.

Oh boy

I think I'm in love...

Do I risk ordering it online and it being hideous on (doubt it)? Or do I risk waiting until I go into a store and them selling out/never having any (it's a sale item)?

It's so dreamy! Sa-woooon.
